Banko ware (Yokkaichi Banko-yaki) is a traditional Japanese stoneware and earthenware originating from Yokkaichi, Mie Prefecture, in the mid-18th century. Famous for shidei (iron-rich purple/reddish-brown clay) used to make lightweight, thin-walled side-handle teapots (kyusu) that help soften tea bitterness.
